  • Mental health counseling is a form of therapy that focuses on identifying and addressing emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns. It is conducted by licensed professionals, such as counselors, therapists, or psychologists, who work with individuals to develop coping strategies, improve overall well-being, and promote personal growth.

  • It is recommended to seek mental health counseling if you are experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, stress, or any other emotional or psychological distress that is interfering with your daily life. Counseling can also be beneficial for individuals who are going through major life transitions, such as a relationship change, loss of a loved one, or a significant career shift.

  • A mental health counselor is a licensed professional who specializes in providing support, guidance, and evidence-based therapies to individuals struggling with a wide range of mental health concerns. Their primary role is to help you navigate the challenges you're facing, gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts and emotions, and develop effective coping strategies to improve your overall well-being.

  • Finding the right counselor is crucial for a successful therapeutic relationship. Consider factors such as the counselor's area of expertise, their therapeutic approach, and their personal style. It's also important to ensure that the counselor is licensed and accredited in your state or region.  Many counseling services offer initial consultations, which can help you determine if a particular counselor is a good fit for your needs and preferences.  When our staff receive calls for an initial appointment, they will ask some basic questions that will help them determine which counselor is a good fit for you.

When choosing a mental health professional, consider the following factors:

    • Credentials and experience: Look for a therapist who is licensed and has specialized training in the areas you're seeking help with.

    • Personality fit: It's important to feel comfortable and able to build a trusting relationship with your therapist. Consider their communication style and whether it aligns with your preferences.

    • Approach to therapy: Different therapists may use various therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, or holistic approaches. Reflect on what you're looking for in a counseling experience.

    • Availability and accessibility: Consider factors like location, appointment availability, and insurance coverage to ensure the therapist is a good fit for your needs and circumstances.

  • Engaging in counseling can offer numerous benefits, including:

    • Increased personal growth: Through the counseling process, you can develop new perspectives, set and achieve meaningful goals, and cultivate a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment.

    • Improved emotional well-being: Counseling can help you better understand and manage your emotions, reducing symptoms of mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

    • Enhanced coping skills: You'll learn effective techniques to handle stress, overcome challenges, and improve your overall quality of life.

    • Increased self-awareness: Counseling can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your values, and your personal goals.

    • Strengthened relationships: By addressing communication issues and developing healthier relationship patterns, counseling can strengthen your personal and professional relationships.

  • During a typical counseling session, you can expect the following:

    • A welcoming and confidential environment: Your counselor will create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can openly share your thoughts and feelings without fear of stigma or repercussions.

    • Active listening and empathy: Your counselor will attentively listen to your concerns and respond with genuine empathy, seeking to understand your unique experiences and perspectives.

    • Collaborative goal setting: Together, you and your counselor will identify your specific goals and develop a personalized treatment plan to address your needs.

    • Evidence-based interventions: Your counselor may utilize various therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based practices, or solution-focused strategies, to help you achieve your desired outcomes.

  • The duration of counseling can vary depending on the individual's needs and the specific mental health concerns being addressed. Some individuals may find that a few sessions are sufficient, while others may benefit from ongoing, long-term support. Your counselor will work with you to determine the appropriate frequency and length of your sessions, taking into account your progress and goals.

  • Yes, counseling sessions are confidential. Your counselor is bound by professional ethics and legal regulations to protect the privacy of your personal information and the content of your conversations. Exceptions to confidentiality may include situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. Your counselor will explain the limits of confidentiality during your initial session.

  • The cost of mental health counseling depends on your health insurance coverage.  We accept most insurance plans.  Your particular insurance coverage will determine whether you have a copay, what your deductible is, and what the fee is for mental health services. It is recommended that you discuss the financial aspects of counseling with your insurance provider before beginning treatment.  If you don’t have insurance coverage, our counselors offer sliding-scale fees.

  • It is crucial that you feel comfortable with your counselor and your overall experience.  The first step is to discuss any concerns with your counselor.  Counseling is a collaborative effort where both you and your counselor openly communicate about any concerns.  Most of the time good communication will lead to resolution of your concerns.  If that doesn’t resolve things, then you can contact the owner, Collin Lodico, Ph.D., about your concerns.  If there are concerns about your experience with the office staff, with billing procedures or with scheduling issues, then you may also contact the office manager, Pam Eastwood.

  • The decision to include a loved one in your counseling sessions is often a personal one. While some people find it beneficial to have a supportive person present, others prefer to have private, one-on-one sessions with their therapist. Discuss this with your therapist to determine the best approach for your situation.
